Barling man with long criminal history draws 30-year stretch for 2021 arson arrest

A thirty-year-old Barling man finds himself awaiting transfer to the Arkansas Department of Corrections facing 30-yeare see after a plea deal Friday on Arson and Failure to Appear charges that were bumped as a the result of a Habitual Offender enhancement.

Clate Alan Leonard, , who has been an inmate in the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center since being returned to Sebastian County on failure to appear charges on June 8, was sentenced to 30-years with ten years suspended for a January 21, 2021 arson arrest with an additional ten years suspended on the failure to appears.

Leonard was already doing a long stretch in jail for drug and paraphernalia charges from a 2018 conviction. He obviously was allowed to serve out his sentence the SCADC but is now awaiting transfer on the county waiting list.

In addition to the imposed sentence we was ordered to have no contact with the victims in his case. The arson arrested was conducted by the Fort Smith police Department.
