The Arkansas State Police is reporting the death of a 61-year-old a Atkins woman in a pedestrian/vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday in rural Pope County.
According to the ASP report posted on Friday, Beverly Jane Jones of Atkins was walking in the traffic lane when a 2014 Infiniti traveling in the eastbound lane og Highway 363 east of the Alpine Meadows Road. According to the report, The Infiniti had slowed to allow a dog to cross the road, then struck Jones.
Jones was thrown onto the hood of the car and landed in the opposite lane in the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pope County Coroner's Office.
Her death is the 55th in the state since the first of the year.
Trooper Frederick Williams reported clear conditions and a dry roadway at the time of the accident.
