Atkins man dies as the result of single-vehicle crash Sunday in Conway

A Pope County man has died as a result of an accident that occurred in Conway on Sunday morning according to information from the Arkansas State Police.

A preliminary report from the ASP says that 31-year-old Matthew Franklin of Atkins died after the 6:30 a.m. accident Sunday morning on US highway 64 West at the Caddron Creek bridge in Faulkner County.

The report says Franklin was driving a 2013 Chevy Tahoe eastbound on US Highway 64 when the vehicle exited the roadway to the right and traveled down an embankment. The top portion of the vehicle struck a tree before coming to rest in the eastbound roadside facing west.

Corporal Austin Harmon of Troop A of the Arkansas State Police worked the accident and noted clear weather conditions and dry roadway at the time of the crash.

Franklin's death was the 224th of the year on Arkansas roads and highways.
