ASP: Saturday afternoon accident on I40 near Mile Marker 9 kills one and injures two

A sixty-one-year-old Van Buren man has died as the result of a two-vehicle accident Saturday on Interstate 40 at Mile Marker 9 in Crawford County, according to the Arkansas State Police.


According to an ASP preliminary report, James Clemons was driving a 2017 Chevy Equinox westbound when he stopped in the left lane for an unknown reason. The Clemons vehicle was struck from behind by a 2002 Chevy Tahoe driven by 49-year-old Georgia Ahrens of Alma.


The impact caused the Equinox to roll over, resulting in Clemon's death. Aherns and a passenger in her vehicle, 25-year-old Camila Capaci of Houston, were both taken to Mercy Fort Smith for treatment of unspecified injuries.


The time of the accident was listed as 5:50 pm.


According to responding trooper Cpl. Cort Williams, conditions were cloudy and the road was wet at the time of the accident.
