ASP details US Highway 71 crash that took life of 68-year-old Mena woman last Friday




Arkansas State Police officials have released details on accident that occurred last Friday in Mena that took the life of the 68-year-old woman.


According to a post on the Arkansas Department of Safety website, Gloria Srong was a passenger in a 2015 northbound Dodge Ram pickup truck that was driving north on Highway 71 at approximately 1:35 p.m. Friday afternoon.


The pickup truck, driven by 75-year-old Bruce Strong of Mena, had just pulled on to US Highway 71 to go northbound. A southbound 2015 Honda CRV and the pickup truck collided. The Dodge then continue to travel northbound for flipping over one and a half times and finally coming to rest in the center of us 71.


Gloria Strong was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs where she succumbed to her injuries at just after 9:00 p.m. Friday night. Bruce strong was also injured in the accident and transported to a the Hot Springs facility for treatment.


The ASP accident report did not list the driver of the Honda CRV.


The accident was worked by patrolman Jesse Curry of the Mena Police Department. Curry noted weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident which pushed the statewide fatality total to 10 at that point.
