Arkansas State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the early morning hours of June 16 on Interstate 40 near the 9-mile marker, leaving one man dead and a minor injured.
According to Trooper Logan Hatcher, a 2007 RAM pickup driven by 64-year-old Mark Holmes of Mandeville, Louisiana, was traveling eastbound around 2:09 a.m. when it collided with the rear of a 2022 Volvo.
The impact caused Holmes’ vehicle to spin in the roadway, where it was then struck by a 2023 Peterbilt semi-truck.
Holmes, who was the sole occupant of the RAM, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to the Sebastian County Coroner’s office. The minor, whose identity has not been released, was injured and transported to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith.
All three vehicles involved were eastbound at the time of the crash. Weather conditions were clear, and the roadway was dry.
Authorities have notified Holmes' next of kin. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision remains ongoing.
