Arkansas Statewide News: Arrest made in murder of Lafayette County man


Markeith Anderson, 29, of Stamps died at the scene of a shooting incident early Saturday morning (*April 16th).


A Stamps police officer discovered the victim outside a location identified as 159 Chestnut Street in Stamps. Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene about 5:30 AM.


Local police arrested Tony L Cheatham, 41, of Stamps who is being held at the Lafayette County Jail on a charge of manslaughter.


Anderson had a violent past including being involved in a 2017 shooting at a home in Lewisville tha1t injured four people. He also had felony drug convictions dating back to 2013. In addition, Cheatham is a Lawrence County frequent court flyer with dozens of felony convictions dating back to 1887.


At the request of local law enforcement authorities, the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident.

An investigative file will be prepared and submitted to the Lafayette County prosecuting attorney.
