Arkansas State Police: Virginia man killed on shoulder of eastbound lane on I40 in Pope County


A 33-year-old Virginia man has died as the result of injuries sustained in a pedestrian accident at Mile Marker 97 on Interstate 40 in Pope County, according to the Arkansas State Police.


Police say Timothy Cook of Suffolk, Virgina was outside of his vehicle on the outside shoulder of the road when a 2018 Kia Soul driven by an unidetified driver hydroplaned and went off on the right side of the roadway. Cook was struck by the Soul and was pronounced dead at the scene.


The accident occured at 9:45 p.m. Friday night according to the ASP preliminary report filed by trooper Kyle M. Johnson. Johnson noted the rain and wet conditions were the contribiuting factors in the accident.


Cook's death was the 172nd fatality of the year on Arkansas roadways.
