Arkansas State Police says McAlester woman was killed in accident on US Highway 71 Tuesday night


The Arkansas State Police published an initial narrative on a crash that claimed the life of an Oklahoma woman Tuesday night on US Highway 71 neat the intersection with Zero Street.

Police say 39-year-old Salissa Moon, 39, of McAlester, was northbound in a 2011 Hyundai on US 71 at "a very high rate of speed" when she crossed over the center line and had a head 0on collision with a 2018 Chevrolet driven by a Fort Smith man.

Moon was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sebastian County Coroner's office. Daniel Canclini, 70, of Fort Smith was the driver of the Chevrolet and he was transported to Mercy Hospital Fort Smith with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident was worked by the by the Fort Smith Police Department, and officer Kyle Story noted clear weather and dry roads at the time of the accident, which occurred at 9:33 p.m.

The fatality was the 344th of the year on Arkansas roadways
