Arkansas State Police releases information on two recent fatal Newton County accidents




Two recent accidents in Newton County involving victims from out of state resulted in the death of a 29-year-old Roeland Park, Kansas man and a 74-year-old Florissant, Missouri man according to the Arkansas State Police. 


Publication on the Arkansas Department of Public safety website over the weekend of an accident report detailed a crash that occurred May 18 resulting in the death of 74-year-old Gary Richard Barthels of Missouri. 


Barthels was the driver of a 2009 Harley Davidson that was northbound on Highway 7 inside the Jasper city limits. According to that report, Barthels was traveling in the area of the Newton County fairgrounds when he crossed the center line and struck an oncoming southbound 2019 Kia Niro.

 

Barthels was thrown from his vehicle and died at the scene according to the ASP report. A passenger in the Kia, Bobby B.Standridge, 76, of Hector and the driver, Travis Brian Standridge,51, from Russellville, were both injured and transported to the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center where they were treated for unspecified injuries


The release of the accident details was delayed by the Arkansas State Police in order for time to notify the next of kin of the deceased.


ASP Trooper Nick Burleson worked the scene and noted clear weather conditions and a dry roadway at the time of the accident. 


The second fatal accident in the county last week occurred on Thursday afternoon on State Highway 21 near Mosseville Road.


That single vehicle crash in a rural part of the county involved a 2018 Yamaha MT-07 that was driving north on State Highway 21 at approximately 5:00 p.m. The driver, 29-year-old Louis Gabriel Rebeck of Roeland Park, Kansas, attempted to negotiate a left-hand curve and lost control of the vehicle.


The Yamaha ran off the east side of the roadway and struck a guardrail ejecting Rebeck,

who was declared dead at the same. 


State trooper Nathan L. Bradley was the investigating officer at the accident scene and noted clear weather conditions and a clear roadway at the time of the crash.
