A head-on collision on July 25, 2025, claimed the lives of two men on State Highway 28 in Scott County. According to authorities, the crash occurred at approximately 3:34 p.m. near Waldron, where a hill crest obstructed visibility.

Investigators with the Arkansas State Police report that a 2019 Nissan Maxima, driven eastbound by 25-year-old Ruben A. Villatoro Miranda of Waldron, collided with a westbound Ford Mustang that had been overtaking another vehicle as both cars approached the top of the hill. The impact was fatal for both drivers.

Emergency responders arrived to find clear skies and dry road conditions—factors that emphasize how quickly danger can arise, even on seemingly safe stretches of road. The second victim has not yet been identified and remains listed as John Doe in official records.

No passengers were reported in either vehicle, and no additional injuries occurred.

Bodies were transported to the Scott County Coroner’s Office, and Mirand's next of kinwas been notified. Corporal Shannon M. Davis of the Arkansas State Police is leading the investigation.

Authorities are urging caution on rural highways where visibility is limited and overtaking maneuvers carry significant risk. The investigation remains ongoing.
