Arkansas State Police: Crash in Pope County Saturday takes life of 75-year-old Pottsville woman

Officials with the Arkansas State Police say a 75-year-old Pope County woman was killed and two other people were injured Saturday in a one-vehicle accident in the 200 block of Bowden Cemetery Road in Pottsville.

According to information from a preliminary crash report filed by the Arkansas State Police, Shirley Willcutt of Pottsville was the driver of a 2023 GMC terrain that was westbound on Bowden Cemetery Road at 12:57 p.m. Saturday.

Just west of the intersection with State Highway 363 the Terrain gradually veered into the opposite lane of travel and then off the left side of the roadway.  The vehicle continued traveling off the left side of the roadway for a short distance before colliding with a culvert at a private driveway.

The impact with the culvert caused the vehicle to go airborne, landing on its top and rolling on the driver's side.

Willcut and two passengers were rejected from the vehicle before the Terrain came to rest upright on the left side of the roadway.

Eighteen-year-old Delaney Willcut of Pottsville and 20-year-old Evan Clark of Russellville were taken to St Mary's Hospital in Russellville for treatment of unknown injuries.

Shirley Wilcut was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to the Lemley Funeral Home.

Trooper Paul Matthews work the accident and noted clear weather conditions and a dry roadway at the time of the crash.
