Amended plea deal sends Fort Smith sexual offender to prison for five years on assault charge


A Fort Smith man arrested in November of 2022 who was charged with two counts of sexual assault in the second degree was sentenced to 5 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections in court proceedings Wednesday morning in Fort Smith.


Fofty-seven-year-old Clifford Dean Crose, who's listed address was in the 1400 block of South 12th Street, drew the sentence after a plea deal in Sebastian County Circuit Court Wednesday morning. One of the two counts against Crose was dropped and n addition to the five years imposed, he received an additional 15-years suspended for the crimes.


The charges in the case indicate Crose has sexual contact with a juvenile under the age of fourteen.


According to information from the Sebastian County Detention Center, Crose was arrested on November, 23, 2022. He was released on a $50,000 signature bond after spending approximately two hours in jail.


Crose remained free on bond until his court date on Wednesday. In addition to the jail time he was required to pay the mandatory sex offender registration fee and will be on the Arkansas Sex Offender list for life.


He was also mandated to have no future contact with his victim.
