Alma man dies after being struck by vehicle early Saturday morning between Van Buren and Alma

According to information released Sunday by the Arkansas State Police, a 38-year-old Alma man died early Saturday morning in a vehicle/pedestrian accident on US Highway 64 between Van Buren and Alma.


The ASP preliminary report says Micheal Tyree of Alma was walking in the right lane eastbound lane on US Highway 64 at 4:25 am when he as struck by a 200s Buick Lacrosse. The driver, who reportedly didn't see Tyree until the last moment because of the darkness, attempted to steer left but couldn't avoid contact with the victim.


The accident occurred in the vicinity of he Kopper Kettle, according to police.


Police say Tyree was forced off the south side and onto the shoulder of the roadway.

Investigating officer Dale Howard report clear conditions and a dry roadway at the time of he impact.


Tyree's death is the 28th of the year on Arkansas roads and highways.
