Accident on US Highway 71 South Wednesday night takes life of 26-year-old Huntington man


A 26-year-old Huntington man died Wednesday night as a result of a motorcycle/truck accident that occurred in the 9500 block of Highway 71 South in Fort Smith.


According to information supplied by an Arkansas State Police preliminary report, 26-year-old Zachary Boyd of Huntington was piloting a 2024 Yamaha in the southbound lane of Highway 71 South at approximately 10:40 p.m. Wednesday night. 


Information from that report, report, which was furnished to the Arkansas Department of Public Safety by the Fort Smith Police Department, Boyd was traveling at a high rate of speed when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a 1994 International truck.


The report doesn't indicate whether Boyd hit the truck in the back or during a lane change.


Boydwas declared dead at the scene and his body was taken to the Sebastian County coroner's office. Investigating officer J. Davidson of the FSPD noted clear weather conditions and a dry roadway at the time of the crash.


Boyd's death represents the 349th fatality of the year on Arkansas roads and highways.
