The seventh Arkansas roadway fatality of the year occurred on Wednesday when a 55-year-old Eureka Springs man was killed and a driver in the vehicle in which he was riding was injured in a wreck that occurred on State Highway 23.
According to information from a posted preliminary report on the Arkansas Department of Public Safety website, 55-year-old Darin Lee Workman was a passenger in a 1994 Oldsmobile that was headed south on State Highway 23 near County Road 2928.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. the driver of the Oldsmobile, 37-year-old Shanea Lynn Niblett, also of Eureka Sprongs lost control of the vehicle while trying to negotiate a left-hand turn.
The Oldsmobile traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned onto its right side before coming to rest on its top approximately 50 feet from the roadway.
Workman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carol County coroner's office while Niblett was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville and treated for unknown injuries.
Arkansas State Trooper Jackson R. Little worked the fatality for the agency and noted clear weather conditions and a dry roadway at the time of the accident.
