A Delaware County detainee faces multiple charges after a weekend arrest for spotlighting deer out of season

A 60-year-old Jay man booked over the weekend on hunting, drug, gun, and child-neglect complaints already has a court history in Arkansas and southwest Missouri for felony theft and stealing.

Billy Dale Herrington was booked into the Delaware County jail early Saturday. Jail records list him as a white male living in Jay.

The new Oklahoma complaints include hunting deer in closed season, spotlighting deer, hunting with the aid of a motorized vehicle, transporting a loaded firearm, obstructing an officer, knowingly concealing stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture of a controlled substance or possession of materials with intent to manufacture, maintaining a place for keeping or selling a controlled substance, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, and child neglect.

Those counts sit on top of earlier cases under the same name. In Benton County, Arkansas, he was charged with felony theft by receiving after an offense in December 2009. Charges were filed in January 2010.

In Missouri’s 40th Judicial Circuit, which covers Newton and McDonald counties, several 2021 files name Billy Dale Herrington. One case filed in September 2021 charged stealing a motor vehicle, watercraft, or aircraft, a Class D felony.

Companion files from the same stretch include later circuit cases. One shows a guilty plea in November 2021. Another shows a guilty plea in February 2022. A third shows a guilty plea later that same February. A related record lists stealing a catalytic converter with a sentence entered in April 2022.

The Missouri and Arkansas files put Herrington in the same border region as Jay and they line up with the stolen-property and firearm language in the new Delaware County booking.

Formal Oklahoma charges have not been posted on the public docket as of Monday evening. Prosecutors can use the out-of-state theft history if they file an after-former-conviction count.

Herrington remains in custody in Jay.
