A 71-year-old Fort Smith woman was killed Friday night when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a road in Barling, according to Arkansas State Police.

The crash occurred about 9:07 p.m. Aug. 7 at the intersection of Frontier Road and Veterans Avenue in Sebastian County. A 2022 Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Frontier Road when a pedestrian riding a mobility scooter entered its path while attempting to cross the roadway from Veterans Avenue.

The pedestrian was struck on the right side by the front of the Honda in the westbound lane, troopers said.

Susan Jones, 71, of Fort Smith, was killed in the crash. No injuries were reported among others involved. Her body was taken to Ray Francisco Embalming Service in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and next of kin have been notified.

Weather conditions were clear and the road surface was dry at the time of the wreck. Sgt. Josh Porter of the Arkansas State Police is investigating.
