Suspect shot during confrontation with SCSO S.W.A.T still unidientified

Officials have yet to name the suspect who was shot to death Monday night during a standoff with the Sebastian County S.W.A.T. team at a home on a private rural road that is located just off State Highway 10 between Greenwood and Hackett in South Sebastian County.

Police from five different agencies, including the Arkansas State Police, Greenwood, Hackett and Barling police departments as well as the Sebastian County Sheriff Office responded to a report of shots fired just after 10:40 p.m. Monday night at a home on Sunny Hill Place.

An off-duty Hackett police officer was checking on a possible disturbance at the home when we has confronted and fired upon by a shotgun wielding male suspect. Law enforcement was called to the scene and the when the S.W.A.T team arrived, they also were fired upon by the suspect.

The suspect attempted to flee the scene with more firearms and fired on the officers again. Me managed to hit three members of the S.W.A.T squad before he died in a hail of return fire.

All three of the injured deputies were released on Tuesday morning a Fort Smith Hospital following treatment for their wounds.

The Arkansas State Police will be handling the investigation.
