Six deaths on Arkansas roads last week push statewide total to 82 for 2018

Six accidents across Arkansas in the past week claimed six lives and pushed the total of those killed pn state highways and roadways to 82 for the year.

Arkansas traffic deaths had claimed 102 victims in the same time period a year ago.

A Benton County accident on Saturday killed a Springdale man, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Don W. Offenbacker, 58, was killed when the 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle he was driving east on State Highway 62 struck a westbound 2004 Nissan that was making a left turn onto Rose Street.

Offenbacker was taken to Mercy Hospital in Rogers wehere he died from his injuries.

.One person died and another was hurt after a head-on crash on Friday in Jefferson County.

Pol;ice say 30-year-old Felicia Curtis died in the accident.

A man driving the other vehicle was hurt. The accident happened shortly before midnight Friday on Highway 79, south of Embry Road.

According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, the car driven by Curtis crossed the center line and hit an oncoming vehicle.

Conditions were clear and dry at the time.

A twenty-six year-old Pocola man died on Wednesday as the result of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident on State Highhway 253 at Durham Lane in Sebastian County.

A Heber Springs teen died after his motorcycle was hit by a car along Interstate 430 Thursday night.

That's according to an Arkansas State Police (ASP) preliminary accident report that identifies the victim as Isaac Daniel Hamman, 18.

The ASP says Hamman's 2008 Suzuki was hit from behind by a 2018 Dodge Charger that was traveling in the same lane around 9:45 p.m. After the impact the motorcycle went out of control, hit a guardrail and threw Hamman off.

The accident report states that the bike then bounced back onto the interstate and became wedged under the Charger, which caught fire after the driver pulled over.

No other injuries were reported.

The Arkansas State Police reported that a 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit driven by John Michael Crafton failed to negotiate a curve as he was driving south on State Highway 253 and struck a large metal culvert. The vehicle came to rest on the grassy roadside facing southwest.

The accident occured at 3:55 p.m. according to the ASP and happened in dry and clear conditions. Crafton was taken to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith where he was pronounced dead.

Kimberly Ann Ursery, 51, of Arkadelphia was killed about 2:16 p.m. Tuesday in a single-vehicle wreck on DeGray Road in Clark County.

According to the preliminary Arkansas State Police report, Ursery was driving a 2012 model Toyota north on the road when the vehicle left the road and struck a tree. Ursery was taken to Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia, where she died.

An Arkadelphia man died after a motorcycle accident early Sunday morning last week.

The ASP says 28-year-old Stefone Buckley was killed in the wreck.

It happened near the intersection of Highways 7 and 51 shortly before 3:00 a.m.

According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Buckley's motorcycle left the road and struck a sign.
