Sebastian County Detention Center inmate collapses, dies after release from hospital
An inmate at the Sebastian County Detention Center collapsed and died shortly after being released from an area hospital and being returned to the local jail on Thursday.
The identity of the inmate has not been released.
The inmate had been treated and released from the hospital at about 5 p.m. According to the SCSO, the inmate was awake and speaking to the deputy during the two-minute drive from the hospital to the detention center.
As the male inmate was getting out of the transport vehicle at the SCDC he collapsed. Officers and EMS attended to the man on site, who was immediately transported back to the hospital where he died.
According to information from the SCSO, the possible cause of death was a heart attack. The body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
