Pit bull attack on Sallisaw two year-old results in the arrest of Sequoyah County woman
Reports out of Sequoyah County say a 38-year-old Sallisaw woman was charged with child neglect on Wednesday in district court stemming from an incident in which she was babysitting a two-year old that was bitten in the face by her pit bull on December 7.
Diana McCullah stands accused of leaving the toddler alone with the dog on when she went to discipline two other children in another room in the home.
McCullah is being held without bond in the Sequoyah County detention center.
McCullah told the investigating officers that she heard the child "scream and cry" and when she came back into the living room, the dog had “the majority of the child’s head in its mouth and was pressing down with its jaws” according to one published report.
The dog tore the child’s flesh from under her right eye, down her cheek to under her nose and her top lip.
The child was taken to a Tulsa hospital where doctors told the family several skin graphs would be needed to repair the damage.
The dog was also taken out of the home by Sallisaw Animal Control officers.
