Three regional squads move to second round of Oklahoma high school playoffs



Three teams local to the Today in Fort Smith readership area managed to stay in the Oklahoma high school playoffs on Friday night as Spiro and Vian in Class 2A an Keota in Class B eight-man all managed first round victories.

Spiro, which got off to a slow start on the season and stands just 5-6 after their first round playoff 41-20 win against Okemah, will make the trip to Tulsa on Friday to take on Tulsa Holland Hall.

Vian scored a 41-20 victory over the Panama Razorbacks (8-3) on Friday and improved to 9-2 on the season with the win. The Wolverines will be at home again this week taking on 10-1 Victory Christian in the second round.

Keota opened he eight man playoffs at home against Coffeyville and lit up the viisitors 50-12 to move to 8-2 on the year. Keota draws Maysville in the second round in a home encounter.

Other area teams that fell by the wayside in ther opening round included Stigler, a 35-7 loser to Jay; Muldrow, which finished the year at 7-4 with a 24-21 setback against Lincoln Chrisitian; Gans, which fell to 3-8 on the year with a 50-0 loss to Depew;Poteau, which took three time defending state champion Wagoner to overtime in a 35-28 loss; Sallisaw Cental, which fell to Hulbert by a 50-27 count; Arkoma, who was knocked off 68-20 against Prue and Eufaula , which was eliminated 50-21 against Sequoyah-Talequah.
